About Mayan Reel Adventures

Captain Chris Ferguson

Born into Paradise

Any good fishing story starts with a compelling character, and Captain Chris Ferguson is about as enthralling of a fisherman as they come! Born and raised in Hawaii, Chris has been fishing since he could walk. It’s easy to get hooked on the sport when you’re surrounded by an ocean paradise, and Chris took every opportunity to hone his craft from an early age.

The Journey to Retirement

On his quest for the next best catch, Chris traveled across the Pacific Northwest where he eventually found the opportunity to retire young. Realizing his blessings, Chris made it his mission to teach others the skill and love of fishing.

Life in the Yucatan

Now a permanent resident of Chelem (located just outside of Progreso), Chris and his wife spend their days helping locals, ex-pats and visitors alike achieve their dream of exploring and fishing the pristine waters of the Yucatan Peninsula. If he’s not on the water, you’ll often find Chris mentoring local young men, helping them build the life skills they need to provide for their families.

Bailey’s story

Born into Paradise

Bailey was born and raised in beautiful northern California, camping and fishing on the bountiful lakes and rivers there. It wasn’t until she moved to Mexico in 2016 that she truly discovered her passion for fishing! An avid outdoorswoman, Bailey looks forward to sharing her knowledge about the very unique and fascinating eco system here in Yucatán!

As the only woman pro angler in this area, nothing brings her more joy than teaching and fishing with other women. Let’s go girls!

Meet the Marinaro

Angeloh Pech Couoh

A sixth-generation Mayan, fishing is part of Angeloh’s DNA. He and his family have been caring for and fishing the local waters long before the area was settled. His great-grandfather Ventura Pech Xul, renowned in the port of Chelem as “Turix,” passed down the art and skill of fishing to his children from an early age.

Angeloh keeps this legacy alive today. A married father and family man, Angeloh has a 4 year old daughter who is already on her way to taming the wild Progreso waters.

With Angeloh as your guide, you’ll access the special enclaves and cenotes only he and other local Mayans are permitted to visit. His incredible skill as a fisherman and guide will help you take your game to the next level.

Our Fishing Experience

The Yucatan Fishing Grounds

Millions of years ago, when the Chicxulub asteroid struck what is now the Yucatan Peninsula, the course was set to give life to the most fertile fishing grounds the world-round. Often referred to as “the womb”, our local waters are host to fish, sea turtles, dolphins, and countless other marine life who journey to our shallow shoals to give birth.

The Boat

Our tours utilize an 18 foot flat platform outboard Suzuki. Equipped with Garmin fish finders and state-of-the-art navigation, you’ll enjoy all of the latest electronics and top-of-the-line gear. Our rig comfortably fits four guests (and the mounds of fish you’ll catch)!

Premium Catch

Here, the fish feast on shrimp and other premium food sources, producing a sweet flesh unlike any other in the world. Among the 35 species of fish you may encounter, our waters are renowned for their barracuda, amberjack, Spanish mackerels, and of course, the primo snook!
